Fortunes, as told by fortune cookies, can offer the recipient an optimistic and sometime funny outlook on life. Fortune Pig, a collage hundreds of fortunes, is a collection of different foretelling statements. Upon close examination there are fortunes for everyone and for every occasion and the viewer can be pleasantly surprised with particular fortunes. But, as one moves back these fortunes weave into a pattern to form the pig’s “hide” that collectively celebrates the future.
Diana is a collage artist, who incorporates visual surprises and movement in her work. “The sometimes random process of building a collage can surprise me with serendipitous rewards and poignant statements,” she says. The collage process and its end results promotes movement within the piece. Diana is a professional contemporary dancer, who finds vivacity of this movement to be provocative. By using recycled and found objects in her collages, she finds an ultimate reward when “waste” becomes a thought-provoking statement.
