The Heavenly Body
Celebrating the glittering skyline of the Pacific Northwest, pieces of metallic-gold and cobalt tile, glass, broken plates, bits of found objects and jewelry were employed to embellish the lowly image of the pig. Over 5,000 pieces of tile, glass and other materials adorn the fiberglass surface and are secured with cement and epoxy. The use of metallics, lusters, and mirrors as well as the irregular surface created by the tesserae, lend an extra reflective quality to the piece, which has been finished with charcoal grout.
Victoria has experimented with the mosaic medium since last August. She received her BFA in painting from the University of Washington and had studied under such notables as Jacob Lawrence and Michael Spafford.
