Porca Sighting

An ambitious talk for anyone, Porca Sighting resembles orca sightings off the coast of Whidbey Island. A group of children from Langley Middle School gathered together to create a unique pig that reflected their community and surroundings. Two swimming whales were created from one pig and painted to emulate the black and white patterning of the Northwest orca whales. The children executed the black/white design in such a way that it actually represents their island. It is also beautifully finished with a high lacquer gloss. The original artist of Rachel, the bronze piggy bank at the Pike Place Market, Georgia Gerber, resides on Whidbey Island and was often invited to the Porca Sighting creation and activities.
