The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf Goes to the Market
The mixed media piece incorporates the various building items from the Three Little Pigs story and Red Riding hood, and the pig is adorned with straw, wood and brick. The pig is further adorned with a fabulous wolf mask made of papier-mache.
Words and visual puns are often the catalyst of Marjorie's work. One of her past bodies of work was inspired by children's art; another series was based on children's games. This was a new opportunity to play with classic children's literature. With this pig project, she mixed some children's stories. All of her work employs a rich surface texture. She says of her work, "I like movement and asymmetry. This pig is no exception. I tried to combat the symmetrical form with an asymmetrical application of texture. As most of my work is two-dimensional, I always enjoyed an opportunity to work in other media. One of the most fascinating parts of this project is to see the results of the other artists. It is a rare occasion that so many artists respond directly to the same problem."
